nails and football

Exams are finally over! The freedom feels amazing, but weirdly empty. So – obviously – I decided painting my nails and buying some new nail polish would fill that gap well, and be a nice treat for surviving exam season!

At the moment, they’re this gorgeous red colour, as you can see in the top photo, that I may have “borrowed” from my mom, topped with an Avon 3-in-1 base, top coat and strengthener. Two days in, and not a single nail has chipped, which I think is a new record.

I think they went pretty nicely with my dress, which you can see the bottom of in the picture. Annoyingly enough, the weather decided not to be a dress day around lunch time, so I was freezing. At least my nails and clothes matched though!

And the book in the picture is ‘Wuthering Heights’. It’s one if my English Literature books for A2, and I’m determined to keep on top of my work this year, so bus time is now book reading time.

If you’re in the UK, Tescos has the Maybelline Colour Show line on offer for two for £5! I realise I’m starting to sound like I’m endorsing Tescos – I promise you I’m not! It’s just the shop I go in the most!

The turquoise nail varnish – Urban Turquoise – felt nostalgic for me, reminding me of Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb. Makes me sad to know that that cartoon came so late on in my childhood – it’s up there with Scooby Doo for me!

The white nail varnish – Winter Baby – is definitely going to be used for Greece, and I’m thinking of trying to show my support for England and trying to do St George’s cross designs. It won’t work, I know that already, but it can’t hurt to try!

On a less nail varnish related note, football is a pretty major thing for me at the moment.

For those of you living under a rock at the moment, the World Cup (aka the second biggest sports event to the Olympics) is in full swing! Personally, I’ve never been a fan of football, but during World Cup season, I have the stamina to manage a match a day.

If you haven’t guessed, I’m supporting England, because I’m from England. Sure, tell us we have an awful team. I, like any other England supporter, will just bring up 1966. We can hope!

What’s your favourite nail varnish colour, and are you bothered at all by the World Cup?

student life and shoes

As any other student will know, right now is the middle of exam season. Aka, cue the insanely late nights, marathon revision sessions and stupid amounts of tea (or coffee). Thank god I’ve only got two exams left – Physics, and Mechanics. Okay, they’re not exactly the easiest, or the most enjoyable, but it’s eleven less exams than I had left 2 months ago. Phew.

On a positive note (for me, anyways), the college trip to Greece is coming up, which means new clothes, and as you’ve probably figured from the title, new shoes!

Contrast Block Heel Sandals from Matalan (£15) [x]

I saw these beauties, and ended up trawling around three shops and a lot of web pages just to find my size! It was definitely worth it though, given that they were £15 brand new!

Also managed to get my hands on another bargain, thanks to Depop (the best thing to happen since sliced bread in my opinion) – two pairs of heeled Jujus (black and pink) for £18.50! Been looking for a nice pair of Jujus for a while, and to get two for less than the price of one pair brand new has made me beyond happy.

Super sorry that this has only been a short post, and that I haven’t been active too much lately, but I promise to try and correct that after exams and in the run-up to Greece! Time to break the revision books out again, I guess…

prints and platforms

So lately, I’ve fallen head over heels – or platforms – in love with prints and platforms. Prints are just super cute and summery, and can be dressed down with a cardigan and flats, or up with heels and understated … Continue reading

diy summer: fashion masterpost

I’ve always loved arts and crafts, but haven’t really had much time lately, with exams and all, to dabble in the creative side of life. So, during summer, hopefully things will be a bit more colourful and messy. For each of the bullet points, I’ll write up a full post with pictures when I get round to it. For now though, in case you want a little inspiration to bring out the child at heart, here you go!

  • Crescent Moon T-Shirt
I’m thinking the design idea on an oversized, boxy black crop top. Should look super cute with a pair of colourful, high-waisted shorts to add a summery kick to the outfit!
  • Book Clutch Bag
I think this is such a good idea, and reading through the tutorial, it doesn’t look overly complicated. Goodbye English Literature assigned books, hello cute book clutches!
  • Kimono Cape
I’m a little bit completely in love with the trend of kimonos right now, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. The only issue is how expensive some of them can be, so this DIY project is perfect, and definitely a priority for me. Go check it out!
  • Lace Shorts
Got a pair of old shorts which look, well, just a tad on the dull side? This is the perfect tutorial for you then! I think I might actually cut up a pair of my old jeans just because this looks adorable!
  • No Sew Crop Top
A great fashion tutorial for the… less great seamstresses amongst us. Aka me. Perfect addition to any summer wardrobe again though, and you could add your own extra details on, like little flowers around the collar, for the unique factor!
  • Crochet Side Panel Top
Upcycled tops with a vintage vibe? Yes please! Not too complicated, so not much can go wrong with this tutorial, and I bet you won’t see many other people sporting this unique, retro style top!
  • Vintage Style Head Scarf
I was so happy finding this, as it’s a pain to find nice hair dos and hair accessories that work with a pixie cut. Thank god though, it’s cute, it’s vintage style and it’s a win for any hair length!
  • Gathered Skirt
For those of you how are a little better when it comes to the needle and thread, try out this free skirt tutorial and play about with length and fabric to get some unique, in fashion gathered skirts? Who said looking good needs to be expensive?
  • Ombre Shirt
For those old shirts we all have lying around in our wardrobe, try this tutorial to give them some extra life and style! I’m definitely going to try this one, and if the first attempt works well? Expect a rainbow of ombre shirts!
  • Shirt to Cut Out Dress
I’ve seen this dress style everywhere lately, and it’s so new and cute, and just perfect for summer! This DIY dress is definitely on my priority list to have a go at, and it looks so simple too!
  • Decorated SunglassesSo I have a thing for sunglasses, the sillier and bolder the better! I’m definitely going to be overusing and abusing this tutorial, so expect plenty of sunglasses to come out of this DIY project!
  • Chain Harness
So I debated whether this counted as jewellery or fashion, and in the end decided to put a different chain harness tutorial in each! A little naughtier than some of the other DIYs, I think this would look gorgeous on top of a simple, slim fitting dress on a night out.

Originally, I was just going to make one overall masterpost, but there were s000o many DIY and craft projects that I fell in love with, I just had to split it into categories so it wasn’t too long. So, expect a jewellery, deco, recipes and beauty masterpost (and maybe more!) over the next few weeks too!

Aaaaand, for the projects that go well, I’ll upload a post explaining them with my own personal little tips and tricks, so keep watching this spot!
